Poverty Alleviation

Poverty entails more than the lack of income and resources to ensure sustainable livelihoods. Its manifestations include hunger and malnutrition, limited access to education and other basic services, social discrimination and exclusion as well as the lack of participation in decision-making. Various social groups bear disproportionate burden of poverty. Poverty alleviation is an ethical, social, political and economic imperative for all societies, which is why there needs to be collective effort to address it comprehensively. Against this context, IIP advocates the mainstreaming of poverty alleviation agenda into national policies of respective governments in accordance with the internationally agreed development goals.
