Mike is an Assistant Professor in Public Finance at University College London’s School of Public Policy. He is also working as the Director of Research for Cryptocurrency and Government at the IE Business School in Madrid. Broadly speaking, Mike’s research is focused on the interlinkages between macroeconomics, finance, accounting, and political science.
Prior to working at UCL, Mike worked as an economist at the International Monetary Fund between 2011 and 2014. He continues to work as a short-term expert with several international organizations and private firms. To date, he has worked with ministries of finance and central banks in over sixty-five countries worldwide.
Born and raised on the Canadian prairies, Mike finished his first degree (Hons BA) in Economics at the University of Saskatchewan before moving abroad to complete an MRes (2006-07) and PhD (2007-12) in Political Economy at the London School of Economics.
